Teams are the chief way that many organizations get work done.  Barnett Consulting has in-depth experience in working with teams of many varieties:  global, virtual, functional, project, management, and executive teams.

Most Common Types of Teams

  1. Intact work teams where members work together on a regular basis and share a common functional expertise and work process.  Intact groups experience declines in performance when work becomes routine or when interpersonal dynamics detract from teamwork.
  2. Project teams where members are assigned from multiple functions and bring their unique expertise to an interdisciplinary team.   The team remains together until the project is completed.

Intact teams often require work process improvement tools.  Consideration of communication style differences yields significant results.   Linkages to other teams are also important for achieving full optimization.

Project teams experience major changes in roles over time. Team skills prominent at the start of a project become less important as team members begin to experience more  distributed leadership.  As new members enter and other members exit, roles need to be renegotiated.

Team Assessment
Barnett Consulting employs assessment instruments to accelerate team development. The Knowledge Team Effectiveness Profile (KTEP) is one online assessment that rates teams on key critical success factors.   These factors have been statistically correlated with the performance of actual teams in over 500 companies.  KTEP assesses leadership factors, availability of needed resources, group dynamics (e.g. trust and teamwork) and teamwork processes.   Assessment data provide the basis for the team to evaluate further behavioral changes that are needed to improve team effectiveness.
